The Paris Music Scene Post Attacks

With the recent attacks in Paris, you could imagine that their day-to-day lives would have dramatically changed.  This is most definitely the case, but Paris citizens are not afraid to still have fun.  This article talks about how three weeks after the ISIS attacks in the club Le Bataclan, the people of Paris are continuing to go to clubs and concerts despite their recent fears.  They say, since they have been in a state of mourn, all they really "wanted to do was to watch live music with [their] friends."  I think it is really great that they are coming together over a mutual love for music after such a horrific event.  It is truly remarkable what music can do for and to people.  How it reflects and changes people's emotions.  How it can make people feel certain feelings that have been unfelt or haven't been felt in a long time.  Music is a beautiful thing that I think is essential to anyone's life.

  1. The Paris attacks brought war to the west more than anything since the attacks in New York on 9/11. I think most of us have at least a flicker of worry about attending public events, but it really is important not to be scared into retreating from things like concerts and social events that bring us together. It was a comment that I overheard at the Dicken’s Fair in December.

This blog post reminded me of it again. This weekend my brother is in New Orleans. He will be going to jazz clubs and marching with friends in a David Bowie tribute parade that includes Arcane Fire and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The parade will go all over New Orleans and end in the French Quarter. Music will be a big part of the celebration. I’m sure a lot of people will worry about safety, but it’s a good thing that events like this still go on.

  2. I completely agree. Music is universal, and as a result it is very healing and unifying. I cannot even imagine living through the horrors of terrorism, but I have no doubt that music can bring back a sense of comfort and normalcy. There's something really incredible about experiencing music with other people. Live concerts carry so much positivity, and they also encourage community among the whole audience who are all strangers. This sense of community among people who have never met is extremely powerful, and if translated outside of the concert, can bring peoples together in one effort for betterment.your post ties in really well with our upcoming concert focused on peace.
