Music and the Holidays

As the holiday season is approaching, everywhere I walk I hear music being played from doorstep to doorstep. Many families bring out holiday music that is saved especially for a certain time of year. Though they may not notice it, such music is one of the most important parts of a holiday. No matter which holiday is celebrated, and in what time of year it occurs, music is one of the main ways people express their joy. So, why is music such an important part of the holidays?
Mostly, it is not the music itself that makes the holidays special, but the emotions linked to them. The act of playing or making music brings up happy memories, and through them, feelings of joy. When listening to, say, Christmas carols, people tend to think about how much fun they’ve had with their families, whether they were decorating their houses while listening to music, or opening gifts on Christmas day. Each person has their own treasured memories, and music, especially traditional/ famous or themed music, brings them out.
Furthermore, music helps people connect with each other, and creates a joyful mood to the listeners, where it is difficult to be upset. Since holiday music can be heard nearly anywhere (especially during this time of year), almost everyone is listening to joyful tunes and thinking about the excitement of the upcoming holiday. Though not many people notice it, and some people may disagree, music is an influential, and incredibly important, part of the holidays, for almost all of the holidays out there.
